Arizona Overland Skills Summit: A 3 Day Immersive Experience
Join us April 25th-27th in the Prescott National Forest, Arizona, for an exciting and fully immersive event, preparing you for taking on your own expedition!
This event is in Partnership with Wild Terrain Expeditions, and SOS_School Of Survival.
Designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to prepare you for your own backcountry expedition. Based out of a scenic backcountry lake, this 3-day course dives deep into First Aid, Fire Making, Backcountry Navigation, Radio Communications, Off-road Driving skills, and Off-road Recovery, offering an essential foundation for everyone from casual campers to seasoned outdoor professionals. Taught by experienced off-road and survival professionals, the course combines the latest in gear overview and experience.
- Medical – We will discuss and demonstrate techniques to control bleeding, open an airway, assist with breathing issues and more. Proper wound care and common medical issues will be discussed.
- Survival Mindset – Survival starts with awareness and good planning. We will discuss the common dangers we face in the back country and how to mitigate these issues through planning and situational awareness. We will discuss survival priorities, PACE plans and how to develop SOPs for your adventures!
- Survival Skills – Building on our knowledge of survival priorities we will learn the foundation of the skills of fire making, shelters and water purification. Learn to make the perfect tinder and emergency fire starters.
- Camp Hygiene – This immersive course will have an ongoing focus on proper expedition cleanliness including bulk water purification, proper techniques for washing and disinfecting dishes, operating a back country toilet and setting up a hand washing station. We discuss potential biohazards around camp and how to prevent their spread and cross contamination.
- Backcountry Navigation – Master the skills to confidently explore remote trails and rugged terrain. Learn essential map reading, GPS navigation, and route-planning techniques to stay on track in the wilderness. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced overlander, this hands-on course will equip you with the knowledge to navigate safely and efficiently on your next adventure!
- Communications – Getting off of the cellular network doesn’t have to mean that you can’t communicate with your team! We will learn the basics of radio bands and frequencies, and how to use radios without having to take a test to obtain licensure. GMRS, MURS and private frequencies will all be discussed. Satellite communications will also be covered.
- Off-Road Driving Skill – Gain the confidence to tackle challenging terrain with ease. Learn essential techniques for vehicle control, obstacle negotiation, and recovery strategies to keep your adventure rolling. Refine your skills, this hands-on course will prepare you for any trail ahead!
- Off-Road Recovery – Learn the essential skills to safely get your vehicle unstuck in any terrain. Gain hands-on experience with recovery gear, winching techniques, and self-recovery strategies to handle unexpected challenges on the trail. Build the confidence to tackle any recovery situation!
- We will also be talking about the dangers of vehicle recovery and how to asses overland related injuries.
Highlights include:
- Daily catered breakfast and dinner prepared fresh by our chef, bringing a touch of culinary flair to camp cooking.
- You will receive an accredited certification from SOS_School of Survival.
- You will receive a certificate of completion of Wild Terrain Expeditions Off-Road Expedition Training.
- You will receive a North American Rescue Throw Kit to add to your first aid kit and we will go over the practical uses of everything inside.
This is a camping based course where we will be staging out of a backcountry campground near a lake.
